Trek-Segafredo fans are left wondering what could have been, after Dutchman Bauke Mollema crashed out of TdF while on track for fifth consecutive vaguely positive GC bid.

Mollema has already undergone surgery on the broken wrist he suffered in the same fall that saw Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondial) leave the Tour with concussion.
At the start of Stage 13, Mollema was sitting disconcertingly high in the GC at 13th overall, with Trek Segafredo eyeing off a potential two-pronged attack on the Top 20 led by Mollema and Australian hope Richie Porte.
Hopes now rest with Porte maintaining a high spot on GC until blowing up on a medium mountain stage and missing out on either a podium, top 5 or top 10 by the exact amount of time he lost in the crosswinds on Stage 7 into Lavour.
